Description: Explore the largest cave and natural bat hibernaculum in Pennsylvania as you traverse through two miles of cave in its original state. During this underground exploration, you’ll get firsthand experience of what’s it’s like in a world of darkness.
Two options exist:
Lower Caverns: For those individuals who wear shoes with good tread and high ankle support (e.g., hiking boots), you will delve into the deepest caverns. You’ll climb over, under, and through various rock formations and may even have to crawl through narrow spaces to get through to the other side.
Upper Caverns: For those without high ankle support shoes, you will tour the upper caverns. With more groomed pathways and higher vaulted rooms, this less physically enduring option gives you an insight to the Cave without traversing as deep into the Cave as the Lower Caverns.
Exploring directors will provide an orientation for participants and guide you through the tour. Please dress accordingly as the cave is a constant 52 degrees year-round.
CMU will provide you with two sources of light (i.e. flashlight and headlamp) but you may elect to bring your own.
What To Bring: dress for 52 degree temperatures and for getting dirty; wear hiking boots or at a minimum closed toed shoes; bring a change of clothes for the ride home so you don't have to sit in dirt for 1.5 hours; water/snacks for the bus ride home;
Weather Advisory: Not applicable. We're going underground.
Ticket Policies: No returns or refunds permitted. To sell your ticket to a friend, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the new ticket holder.
